Abstract

This paper presents an all-passive optical fiber sensor network with self-healing functionality. The characteristic of the optical routing in every ring sensor network can be achieved by self-developed all-passive single-line bidirectional optical add-drop multiplexer (SBOADM). Once there an the interruption of the optical fiber, the thing that the system maintenance operators need to do is to change the optical switch in the RN only, and the optical signal can arrive at the sensor points successfully through each SBOADM. The proposed optical fiber sensor networks can not only solve the problem of power supply and reduce the system complexity but also generate self-healing functionality to recover the connection of optical signals immediately as soon as the optical fiber interruption occurs.
