Effectiveness evaluation of anti-IgE treatment at 3rdyear: Real life Turkey data

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of Anti-IgE (omalizumab) treatment in allergic asthma patients in the real life setting. Methods: Non-interventional, retrospective, multicenter study (18), medical records were used. ≥ 18 years old severe allergic asthma patients on omalizumab treatment were included. Asthma attacks, hospitalization due to asthma, systemic steroid need, ACT and FEV1 changes were evaluated. Results: 465 patients enrolled into the study and 110 patients data who completed 3rd year of omalizumab treatment (F/M: 88/22) were analysed in this analysis. Mean age 49.1±11.9 years, duration of allergic asthma, 16.4±11.3 years. When the 3rd year data compared with the one related to previous year before omalizumab initiation, significant decrease was determined at the number of patients who have asthma attacks: 103 (96.3%)- 33(34.4%) (p<0.001). During the same period the number of patients who were hospitalized due to asthma decreased from 60(58.8%) to 3(3.1%) (p<0.001). Mean number of asthma attack per patient in a year had been 19.1 before the omalizumab treatment and decreased to 2.3 in the 3rd year after omalizumab treatment (p<0.001). The number of patients who needed systemic steroid decreased from 73 (66.4%) to 21 (19.1%) (p<0.001). ACT scores (9.6 vs 20.4 p<0.001) and FEV1 (58.8% vs 75.4 p<0.001) were significantly improved. Omalizumab was found to be effective in 104 patients (94.5%) and partially effective in 6 patients (5.5%) Conclusion: Reductions in asthma attacks, hospitalization due to asthma, systemic steroid need and improvement at ACT and FEV1 results were determined at 3rd year of omalizumab treatment.
