Abstract
In this paper, industrial applications of advanced control techniques for process industries are presented. An overall control system of a large plant has a hierarchical scheme where each control system on a different level has different requirements, constraints, and control functions. Therefore, a suitable control algorithm is sometimes different for a controller on a different level. A combination of adequate control algorithms is expected to make a good performance of the overall control system. As an example of advanced control techniques for a plant control, a control system of a thermal power plant is described.
