Abstract

As the global researches predicts that the rate of demand of electrical energy is much higher than the rate at which generation capacity addition is practically done. This leaves a huge gap between generation and demand. The fuel reserves for power generation will soon be depleted. The options are either to cut back on energy usage or to find alternative clean fuels. Another solution is that Demand Side Management (DSM) i.e. management of load such a way the energy consumption throughout day near about same, without any compromising of work. But in govt. sectors/Institutes where working hours are 9a.m. to 5p.m, all task performed between these hours. Due to certain load Maximum Demand (MD) crosses the Contract Demand (CD) & it is not possible to shift them the load to another period, DG set is one of the best solutions to run the load & optimize the MD. This paper indicates one of the techniques to shifting the load from utility to DG set to optimize the demand during peak load periods.
