Abstract
Surface acoustic wave (SAW) sensing devices have been around for some time. They exhibit the double advantage of being wireless and passive, i.e., they can be remotely interrogated by means of a radio frequency beam and they require no local source of energy. Surface acoustic waves, or Rayleigh waves, can be induced on a piezoelectric substrate by means of a device called an interdigital transducer or IDT [1], as shown on Fig. 1.
