Abstract

when they viewed an immediate playback of a critical play that had happened only moments before. Since that time, the immediate playback by the ever-improved video tape recorder has become a way of life in entertainment television. As usual, after an audiovisual innovation, sensitive educators throughout the nation could see the possibility of video tape recorders (VTR's) in education. However, the cost of these early VTR's was prohibitive for even the richest school systems. Even the most heavily endowed ETV stations could not afford to pay from $60,000 to $100,000 for a video tape recorder. Thus, educators readily recognized the cost was too exorbitant for education.
