Abstract
Recently, both polymeric and molecular organic multilayer structures have been extensively investigated for their potential application to lightweight, inexpensive, full color flat panel displays. In this paper, we discuss the physical origin of electroluminescence in such devices, and its implications for the limits to device efficiency, operating voltage and device lifetime.
