Abstract

This paper aims to presents a facet of tourist activity in Romania through the indicators of tourist arrivals in accommodation units, the number of tourist accommodation units and the degree of occupancy in these units. Data available on the website of National Institute of Statistics (NIS), may have been accessed sorted on regions where there are, the comfort category and the seaside or mountains area. The analysis was done for two social categories, employees and retirees, coming from urban and rural regions. The approach article has been to demonstrate the existence of a causal link between the dynamics of income population for the two categories analyzed and the number of tourist arrivals in accommodation units. Graphic representations of the number of Establishments of touristic reception with functions of tourist's accommodation have focused on the type of accommodation, namely hotels and agro-touristic boarding houses. The period for which research was done for regression analysis was 2001-2014; for some of the other representations, data were available for longer periods. The results demonstrated the presence of a majority of tourist accommodation for lower levels of comfort. Depending on region, we have emphasized the massive presence of tourist accommodation in the Central region for rural establishments and the South East region for accommodation in hotels. Analyzed according to social groups and urban and rural environments, the regression analysis demonstrated a very close connection between average household income growth and the number of arrivals in accommodation units
