Marx as a Thinker of ‘the Global’

This paper tries to shed light on Karl Marx’s character as a thinker of ‘the global’. First establishing that Marx captured the globality of modern society in the concept of the world market, we argue that this attitude parallels those of his predecessors who had had similar interests. Further, by tracing step by step the way Marx conceptualized the world market, we will clarify in what sense Marx changed the conventional way in which 18th and 19th century thinkers had thought of the modern world.
