Abstract
The aim of this paper is to present the results of the desk research on the determinants of innovation breakthroughs, considered in the context of distinguishing between the conti-nuity of the development of the industry, segmentation technology and global conditions. The main aim is to highlight the position of the SMEs sector in the innovation system and the related strategic criteria that define the opportunities and risks of technological development.
