Abstract
This paper presents the results of the collections of Hepaticae (Marchantiophyta) made by E. Rutkis (†) in the central region of the Venezuelan Coastal Range during 1994 and 1995. 62 species of Marchantiophyta grouped in 14 families and 37 genera were identified. The leafy liverwort represent the largest group with 10 families, 31 genera and 54 species; whereas the thallose liverwort number only 4 families, 4 genera and 8 species. The family Lejeuneaceae resulted to be the most diverse, with 18 genera and 32 species. On the other hand, the genera Ceratolejeunea, Lejeunea, Frullania, Lophocolea and Symphyogyna together hold the largest number of species. Eight new registers for the Venezuelan bryoflora and 19 additions to the bryoflora of the Coastal Range are recorded. The intensification of collections of Hepaticae in the mentioned region is urgently recommended.
