Reaction of Bt and non-Bt brinjal hybrids to sucking pests and their yield performance

Abstract

Field experiments were conducted during Kharif 2007 and 2008 at experimental farm, Department of Horticulture, Marathwada Agricultural University, Parbhani (Maharashtra) on well drained black cotton soil to study the yield performance of Bt and non Bt brinjal hybrids. The hybrids MHB-39N Bt (3.3) and MHB-39 Bt (4.1); Pusa hybrid no 6 (2.0) and MHB-39 N-Bt and MHBJ-99N Bt (2.3); MHB10 Bt (4.0) and MHB 9 Bt (5.1); Pusa hybrid no 6 (8.0) and MHBJ 99N Bt (8.5) were promising against aphids, jassids, thrips and whiteflies, respectively. The pooled result for both the years indicated that the yields ranged from 283.6 to 472.5 q/ha. Higher yield (q/ha) was recorded in MHBJ-99 Bt (472.5) and MHB-4 Bt (419.5). Marketable yield ranged from 266.7 to 470.9 q/ha. Highest marketable yield was recorded in MHBJ-99 Bt (470.9) followed by MHB-4Bt (416.3).
