Abstract
The purpose of this study is to review how to teach Korean orthography in textbook and discuss alternative way of teaching orthography for elementary students. This study observes the organization of units relating to standards about orthography and the content of teaching, especially activities and words on textbooks. It finds that the standards about orthography are realized in ``Writing`` and 1st -2nd grader`s textbooks, most of activities are relating to correcting or dictating and words for teaching orthography are wrong spelled ones. The problem is that activities are too restrictive and selecting of words is too arbitrary. So it needs new direction of teaching orthography.
