The efficiency of corrosion inhibitor is decreased by the ferric ion dissolved in acid solution. It was found that amoung many oxidizing agents, SnCl2 is one of the most effective agents in reducing ferric ion to ferrous. In this case ammonium sulfocyanide was used to measure colorimetrically the ferric ion contents in the acid solutions.
