PROBLEMS OF IMPROPER MAINTENANCE AND UTILIZATION OF MECHANICAL TECHNOLOGY WORKSHOPS, FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT IN TECHNICAL COLLEGES OF BAUCHI STATE

This study sought to identify problems associated to improper maintenance and utilization of mechanical technology workshops and workshop facilities and equipment in Technical Colleges within Bauchi State.  A survey research design was adopted among teachers and students of Technical Colleges within the state.  All teachers and students offering this course constitute the entire population for the study.  A total of (20) twenty mechanical teacher and (95) ninety five students at NTCI and NTCII constitute the population.  A total of (20) twenty items questionnaire developed by the researcher served as an instrument for data collection among teachers and students within the three (3) samples Technical Colleges within the state.  Data collected was analyzed using mean, quite a number of strategies was identified which among others would helped improved the maintenance and utilization of tools/equipment in mechanical technology processes.  Recommendations were made such as government should trained workshop instructors in this area, in-service training and seminar/workshop for teachers to update their knowledge and students should go out for excursion to various organizations.  If these recommendations were adopted it would improved on teachers and students maintenance culture and utilization of tools and equipment set aside for maximum utilization of the mechanical workshop among the 6 six Bauchi State technical colleges.
