The purpose of this paper is to survey, interpret, and analyze metaphor linguistically. There are many expressions in languages which people use and communicate each other. Metaphor is a kind of expression in them. The most important expressions are metaphor and metonymy in a language. Metaphor is a concept which used in a literature widely. Metaphor gave us the abundant meanings of a hidden language. Metonymy also gave us the similar metaphorical meanings of languages. So, metaphor and metonymy are important expressions of languages. To understand and speak a language clearly, metaphor and metonymy are understood and used appropriately. In cognitive semantics, metaphor is divided into two concepts. That is to say, they are conceptual metaphor and linguistic metaphor. Conceptual and linguistic metaphor are important concepts and are understood clearly. Metonymy has often led to its being perceive as inferior to metaphor.
