Abstract
For at least 100 years, the manner of execution of the fencing lunge has remained essentially unchanged. Other than empirical refinements made to suit individual styles, very little research has been done on fencing techniques in general or on the lunge in particular. Yet, the lunge is one of the most important movements in fencing and is given great emphasis by fencing teachers.
