Social Skills Interventions for Children With Autism Spectrum Disorders

This chapter reviews the current knowledge about the social lives of children with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs), including their social interactions with peers and the development of friendships. It identifies a number of challenges that children with ASDs face—particularly in school settings with the general population of children—and then examines the effectiveness of current interventions for children with ASDs, with a focus on active ingredients of intervention. Finally, it suggests some avenues for future research in this area.
