Abstract

Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome is a serious iatrogenic complication of ovarian superovulation. It is a systemic disease, caused by the presence of vasoactive products released by the hyperstimulated ovaries. This chapter covers incidence, pathophysiology, and risk factors. It describes typical symptoms, and classification into ‘early’ and ‘late’ syndrome for the purpose of prognosis. It describes the preference for prevention, and the management aim to provide symptomatic relief and avoid complications.
