Abstract
Linking software packages supplied by different vendors is important in computer integrated manufacturing systems. When CAM software packages are used, the selection of cutting tools and machining parameters is still carried out manually based on the programmer’s experience or based on data from machining manuals. This paper describes the development of an interface between a machining database (CUTDATA) and a CAM software (PEPS3). The relevant data is extracted from the machining database and used as input to the CAM software. Based on this input, the CAM software can generate CNC part programs automatically. Satisfactory results have been achieved by the method proposed in this approach.
