Regulars as bishops

The following lists continue those in previous volumes ( MO , Appendix xii , pp. 709–10; RO , 1, Appendix 11, pp. 321–2; RO , 11, Appendix in, pp. 369–75). The average of the previous century is maintained to the end; thus in 1500 and 1525 there were three regular bishops in English and Welsh sees. An attempt has been made to list the ex-religious who became bishops, whether as Henrician conservatives, Edwardian Protestants, Marian Catholics or Elizabethan Anglicans. Those who owed their appointment to Mary are italicized.
