Producing High Quality Seed

In the production and management of high quality turf, the most important investment is the purchase of high quality seed. Too frequently, little attention is given to the seed purchase and every effort made to procure seed at the lowest possible price. The production of high quality turf is very expensive. Since the proper seed is a prerequisite in growing high quality turf, it is most important that every effort by expended to use good quality seed. There are many factors in the production process that influence, rather markedly, seed quality. Seed certification officials are trained and knowledgeable in the technical phases of seed production. The grower must give primary consideration to the location of the area or field for seed production in relation to surrounding crops in order to provide adequate isolation from pollen which might contaminate the seed crop.
