A harmonic distortion analysis of power distribution systems with hybrid power filter

Abstract

Electrical power quality disturbance is an important and growing problem in power system because of the rapid increase in the usage of power electronic loads for modern industrial applications. Such loads create harmonics in power distribution network. To compensate harmonics produced by three phase uncontrolled rectifier in the distribution system, Hybrid Passive Harmonic Filter (HPF) has been proposed in this paper. Hybrid Passive Harmonic Filter consists of tuned Shunt Passive Harmonic Filter (SPF)and Series Passive Harmonic Filter (SePF). The Tuned Shunt Passive Harmonic Filter utilized to minimize low-frequency current harmonics and Tuned Series Passive Harmonic Filter installed for reduction in voltage harmonics. The proposed Hybrid Passive Harmonic Filter overcomes shortcomings of conventional shunt passive filtering techniques by analysis of Shunt Passive Harmonic Filter under various filter performance parameters such as Quality factor, Tuning factor, Current Absorption factor and key performance factors are the total voltage and current harmonic distortion for observation. The work is carried out with the help of MATLAB/SIMULINK 2010.
