Abstract

Chapter 13 covers the evidence for the presence of monoamine abnormalities in depressed patients and also discusses the psychological effects of monoamine depletion, which may provide the best evidence for a role of monoamines in acute depressive states. Finally it outlines recent studies on the effects of monoamine manipulation on the processing of emotional information.
