The Orthodox Church and a Pluralistic Society

Does Orthodoxy support the creation and nurturing of a pluralistic society, or is it hostile to pluralism’s very existence? This will be the major focus of this chapter. Though the chapter often focuses on the Russian Orthodox Church, major parts are based on a discussion of Orthodoxy in general and on practices of the Orthodox Church in other parts of the world. In this way, the fuller dimensions of Orthodoxy’s relationship to pluralism begin to emerge.
