Abstract
This chapter aims to explore the nature of the relationship between aging and cognitive processes. It considers how cognitive psychologists conceptualize the structure and function of human cognition, reviews theories of how cognition may change with age, describes age-related neurological changes that could give rise to change in cognitive function, explores age-related changes in specific domains of function (i.e. sensation and perception, attention, learning, memory, language), and examines the extent to which these change in basic processing components contribute to change in performance in real-world domains.
