Abstract
This chapter begins with the general introduction of cloud computing, followed by the retrospect of cloud evolution history and comparison with several related technologies. Through analyzing system architecture, deployment model and service type, the characteristics of cloud computing are concluded from technical, functional and economic aspects. After that, current efforts both from commercial and research perspectives are presented in order to capture challenges and opportunities in this domain.
