Abstract
The adrenal glands of mammals contain large amounts of catecholamines, the principle one being, in most species, epinephrine. Epinephrine, in turn, is formed from norepinephrine via the transfer of a methyl group from S-adenosylmethionine, a reaction catalyzed by the enzyme phenylethanolamine N-methyltransferase (PNMT).
