Abstract
Outsourcing occurs when a company purchases products, services, or both from an outside supplier in order to achieve some type of business advantage. Typically, the company was previously performing the work in its own facilities. Today, outsourcing is a common part of a global business model, carried out by companies of all sizes and many different industries. The benefits of outsourcing depend in part on the reason a company chooses to outsource. The development of the global economy has now made available a global workforce. Due to different economies and living standards, the cost of various workforces around the world covers a wide spectrum. The goals and advantages in outsourcing knowledge processes are the same as those for business processes: cost savings, operational efficiencies, improved quality, and access to a large and skilled workforce base.
