Abstract

DMSO induces the generation of superoxide radicals in solutions of Na2CO3-Na2EDTA. The formation of superoxide can be detected by lucigenin-dependent chemiluminescence. The inhibition of the chemiluminescence reaction by superoxide dismutase can be used for the sensitive measurement of enzymatic activity of this enzyme. Human mononuclear cells compared with neutrophils demonstrate a three times elevated activity of superoxide dismutase.
