A Reflexive Stance for Family Therapy

In this piece, I examine some challenges to accepted concepts of modern psychology posed by developments in postmodern thought. I also describe the movement in family therapy from a structural or systems view, which tends to create distance between therapists and clients, to a reflexive and collaborative stance based on partnership. I discuss also the importance of becoming aware of the embedded narratives that shape the clinician's work.
