Abstract

With advances in computer technology and the proliferation of personal communication and infra systems on the Internet, it became possible to obtain big data. Simultaneously, social network analysis (SNA) techniques for analyzing relationships were developed and used, making the fundamental tools needed to understand social networks available. This chapter first discusses the basic concepts of SNA, namely, basic terminology and network representation. Then, social network data is explained. To organize the data for network analysis, the network is categorized based on the nature of the node as a one-mode or two-mode network. Each node and link can exhibit specific attributes, with the link identifying the direction of the relationship and its weighted value.
