Continuing medical education in the UK

Three phases of medical education can be identified: the undergraduate training period; the postgraduate training period; and the continuing education of established practitioners. It would be more satisfactory if the educational process could be seen as a continuum , but for certain legal and historical reasons these three phases have to be recognised.
