Growing Old is Not So Bad

Growing old need not be a time of dismay and withdrawal. Growing old is, for most people, a time to be enjoyed and savoured. Retirement should not be the end, rather the beginning of a different type of life. If you like, a different type of work, but work that is enjoyable — the hobby that we’ve always longed to devote more time to, the voluntary work that brings its own satisfaction, or just sitting in the garden watching the weeds grow, if that is what gives you pleasure.
