General Aspects of Urban Landscape of the Republic of Moldova

ABSTRACT:The urban landscape of the Republic of Moldova bears the imprint of historical, political-administrative and socio-economic changes. There is no urban landscape in the true sense of the word but here are inserted components of the natural environment modified by human, agricultural and industrial landscapes that give to the landscape a complex character. It consists predominantly of one-story houses surrounded by agricultural plots, creating confusion about the landscape on which our gaze falls. In the cities, only multilevel apartment blocks and industrial buildings on the outside of the settlement can tell us more about their role and function.Keywords: urban landscape, Republic of Moldova, territorial structure, ruralizationThe landscape is a way to define the geographical context which arouses certain emotions to the viewer, having at first sight more artistic than scientific significance. In the context of the urban landscape analysis it can be mentioned that the urban areas have a shape, which unlike rural areas, has been totally separated from the nature, leaving only traces of integrity with it here and there, which functions are determined by the needs of the urban area.Urban landscape of Moldova is a result of historical, socio-economic and politico-administrative events occurring within the territory from the establishment. In most urban localities the territorial functionality has not changed, so that agriculture remains a crucial element in the aspect of the scenery.Most urban areas have not benefited from an upgrading of urban plans, which are so far only sketches and drawings on the natural and built environment and communications network. The urban planning is considered an immediate need for large and medium urban centers, but for the other urban localities it is envisaged only in the medium and long term. In the recent years local authorities pleaded for the involvement of the citizens and the civil society in planning decisions. They consider people implication very positive because they must decide for themselves what kind of environment around the houses to have and where the shopping centers, the restaurants, the bars, the public and rest areas, the gas stations and the car parks to be placed.The territorial organization of the urban settlements in Moldova is highly differentiated.
