Abstract

Abstract This chapter begins with a discussion of Thomson's scientific style. It then discusses his early heuristic analogies in electrostatics, guiding mechanical model for electromagnetism, his ‘positive’ theory of magnetism, theory of electromagnetic energy, vortex atoms, and electromagnetic theory of light.
