Abstract

Of the organisms generally collected together in the ‘phylum’ Protozoa, some are not at all closely related to others. Although certain of the amoebae and flagellates cannot be separated by sharp lines, the ciliates, gregarines and coccidians, myxosporidians and various other groups are so distinctive that placing them in one phylum is contrary to zoological commonsense.
