Abstract
The cathode-ray tube (CRT) is an essential part of television and radar receivers, video display units (VDUs) in computer and data processing systems, electronic games systems and the cathode-ray oscilloscope (CRO). The actual construction of a particular tube depends upon the use for which it is intended and various extra internal items may be added to the basic tube. As an example a colour television tube is clearly more complex than one to be used in a monochrome receiver and a tube for alphanumeric display for use in a VDU may have an extra arrangement to allow letters and numbers to be generated on the screen. The basic principles of all types of tubes are, however, essentially the same.
