Abstract

Chapter 38 discusses labor and birth after previous cesarian section, including results of a planned vaginal birth after caesarean, risks to mother and baby of cesarean section, factors to consider in the decision about a planned vaginal birth after caesarean (more than one previous cesarean section, reason for the primary cesarean section, previous vaginal birth, type of previous incision in the uterus, gestational age at previous cesarean section), care during a planned vaginal birth after caesarean (use of oxytocics, regional analgesia and anesthesia, manual exploration of the uterus), rupture of the scarred uterus in pregnancy and labor, and the gap between evidence and practice.
