Abstract

In September 1993, the Hungarian Geological Survey began site selection for low- to intermediate-level radioactive waste disposal sites. The site selection process consists of three stages: (1) exclusion of unsuitable areas, (2) selection of potential sites, and (3) selection of disposal sites. Completion of the first two stages identified 32 superficial and 100 near-surface potential sites. 96 of the potential near-surface sites are in Pilocene sequences. Selection of disposal sites should be completed by the end of 1995.
