Abstract
The chronic, protracted, and occasional recurrent nature of varicella zoster virus (VZV) myelopathy is described. Emphasis is placed on the fact that VZV myelopathy may precede zoster rash or develop with no previous history of rash. Virologic studies to verify diagnosis are provided.
