Abstract

Distributed generation (DG) is playing an increasingly important role in modern power systems as the carbon emission concern and electricity demand are increasing. It facilitates the development of small scaled distributed grid networks and their technologies. Microgrid is an emerging technique and it comprises a variety of distributed generators, energy storage, loads and power electronic interfaces. Most of DGs do not provide a constant amount of power generation, thus, a proper control technique is necessity to keep a microgrid stable and reliable. This paper gives a review of literature with regard to the state-of-the-art microgrid architectures and control methods. Comparisons are made between different microgrid structures and control techniques. Pros and Cons are given as reference for further Microgird system studies.
