Abstract

This paper deals with the natural vibrations on an outer ring of a tapered roller bearing under an axial load. In this study, the natural frequencies and natural modes of the outer ring were calculated using the finite element method (FEM) and were compared with the experimental results obtained in previous studies. From the FEM analysis and discussion, we obtained the following conclusions. (1) For FEM analysis for the natural vibrations of the outer ring, it is necessary to use the outer ring model, which consists of more than 15,000 elements. (2) Natural frequencies of the outer ring of the tapered roller bearing under an axial load can be calculated using FEM. In addition, the calculated natural frequencies for model B (with rollers) have a tendency to match the measured natural frequencies. Model A (without the rollers) does not have such a tendency.
