Abstract
Atoms in a strong laser field can emit very high harmonics up until a time during the laser pulse at which ionization occurs. While strong-field ionization has been extensively discussed at intensities coresponding to the above-threshold-ionization and tunneling regimes, less well-understood is the strong-field harmonic generation process. Harmonic generation and ionization may be tied together, but the coherent nature of the harmonic process complicates a comparision with theory, particularity at very high intensities.
