Abstract

Gastroent. 1974, 9, 735–740.The inhibitory effect of secretin (0.5 and 1.0 clinical units/kg b.w./h) and cholecystokinin (0.5 and 1.0 Ivy dog units/kg b.w./h), given alone or in combination, on the pentagastrin-stimulated (0.15–1.0–6.0 µg/kg b.w./h) gastric secretion, was investigated in 12 volunteers. At the low dose-levels of the agents, given exogenously, an augmented inhibition of the secretion of acid was observed when secretin and cholecystokinin were given in combination. Since the doses used most likely were within the range of endogenous release, it is concluded that this interaction between secretin and cholecystokinin is of physiological importance in man.
