The Methadone Treatment of Heroin Addiction

Abstract
Under proper medical supervision, a single daily dose of methadone achieves blockade of the narcotic effects of heroin without producing euphoria in the addict and without escalation of dosage. Dr. Nyswander describes the pioneer program which in three years has successfully rehabilitated more than 300 heroin addicts and transformed them into socially useful human beings.
