Abstract
Berstad, A., Petersen, H., Roland, M. & Liavåg, I. 1973. Effect of Secretin on Pentagastrin-Stimulated Gastric Acid and Pepsin Secretion after Vagotomy in Man. Scand. J. Gastroent. 8, 119-122.Six patients with a proximal selective vagotomy had two separate tests. Gastric secretion was stimulated on one occasion with pentagastrin (2 μg/kg/hour) alone and on the other occasion with pentagastrin in combination with secretin (2 units/kg/hour). In each subject secretin inhibited acid secretion and stimulated pepsin secretion in response to pentagastrin, suggesting that the dissociated effect of secretin on gastric acid and pepsin secretion is independent of vagal innervation.
