Abstract

A technique was evaluated for the systematic application of two-dimensional flux sets to a three-dimensional reactor model.Such a technique would have application over a broad range of reactor studies where flux solutions are essentially limited to two dimensions, due to computational costs and computer capabilities.The technique has been programmed into a computer code named TRIAL.Computations on a three-dimensional reactor model with partially inserted control rods show that only a few percent error is introduced by the linking process in three-dimensional reaction-rate distributions obtained from selected two-dimensional flux sets.Such results are dependent on the user options chosen and this sensitivity is evaluated.This report also describes the flux linking procedures, including the flow of calculations which are performed, the options which are available and the input instructions for TRIAL.
