A Comparative Study of Stipular Glands in Nodulating and Non-nodulating Species of Rubiaceae

Abstract

A comparative study of stipular glands from nodulating and non-nodulating species of Psychotria as well as from some Tricalysia shows that there is no strict correlation between gland type (compact or dendroid) and symbiotic ability, contrary to what was suspected in view of preliminary observations in the author's laboratory and of some data in the literature.
