Abstract

The dual culture method was used to determine the antimicrobial activity of marine bacteria, and stiletto method for the inhibitory effect of their sterile fermentation broth against the mycelia of these indicative plant pathogenic fungi. These selected fungi are Fusarium nivale,Fusarium oxysporum f.sp.vasinfectum,Bipolaria maydis,Helminthosporium carbonum,Fusarium graminearum,Alternaria tenuis,Bipolaris sorokiniana,Alternaria solani and Alternaria alternate. The results showed that the marine bacteria and their fermentation broth are of some antagonistic activity toward selected fungi;we can observe some extent of morphological deformation of mycelia and abnormal conidial germ tube through microscope.Among the above mentioned marine bacteria, strain L1-9 was found to be the most efficient antagonist and of extensive antifungal activity to these selected nine strains of plant pathogenic fungi.
